Privacy policy

This policy explains which personal data we process on this website, why we do it and on which legal basis.

2. Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by Hostinger International Ltd., 61 Lordou Vironos Street, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus, which processes data on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR). When you visit the site, the server automatically stores data your browser sends: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser and operating system. We need these data to run the site securely and to detect errors and attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Log files are kept only as long as needed for these purposes. More in Hostinger's privacy policy.

3. Encryption

The site uses SSL/TLS encryption, shown by “https://” in the address bar.

4. Cookies and consent

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. Without your consent, two services set cookies here:

  • WooCommerce (shop software on our server): cookies named “sbjs_…” store which page or campaign brought you to us. “sbjs_session” expires after 30 minutes of inactivity, the others after a few seconds.
  • Kartra (our sign-up forms, see section 7): the cookie “kuuid” recognises your browser so Kartra can match sign-ups and visits to our pages.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding where visitors come from and in offering the sign-up (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Technically necessary cookies are also set when editors log in to the site's admin area. You can delete or block cookies in your browser at any time.

We manage consent with the WordPress plugin Complianz, which runs on our server. For services that need your consent, such as embedded videos or statistics, we ask you through a cookie banner and store your choice in cookies named “cmplz_…” (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR in conjunction with § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.

The interactive tools on this site, such as the rotation tool, run entirely in your browser. They do not store anything and send nothing to us.

5. Fonts

The fonts of this site are stored on our own server. Your browser does not connect to Google or any other font provider.

6. YouTube

Our videos are on YouTube, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Where we show a video on this site, it loads from YouTube only after you allow it in the cookie banner; before that, only a preview is shown. Once loaded, YouTube receives your IP address and can set cookies. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). Links to our channel take you to YouTube, where Google's privacy policy applies.

7. Newsletter, PDF cheat sheet and sign-up forms

When you sign up, we send you the volleyball rotations cheat sheet as a PDF by email and then our newsletter: new videos and articles, updates to our pages and, now and then, recommendations with advertising (affiliate) links. We ask for your email address and, optionally, your first name. You must be at least 16 to sign up.

Double opt-in. After signing up you get an email with a confirmation link. Only when you click it are you subscribed. We store the time of sign-up and confirmation and the IP address to prove your consent.

Legal basis. Sending the newsletter is based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). The sign-up record serves as proof of consent (Art. 6(1)(c) in conjunction with Art. 7(1) GDPR).

Measuring. Our emails contain a small tracking pixel and links that record whether and when an email was opened and which links were clicked, so we see which topics interest you. This is part of your consent to the newsletter.

Unsubscribing. You can withdraw your consent at any time with the link at the end of every email or by writing to hello@courtandsand.com. We then remove your address from the list. To make sure you get no more emails, the address may stay on a block list (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Service provider and forms. We use Kartra (Kartra, Inc., 187 E. Warm Springs Rd., Suite B – NV101, Las Vegas, Nevada 89119, USA) for sign-ups and sending. The forms on our pages come from Kartra: when you open a page with a form, your browser loads scripts from app.kartra.com, which transfers your IP address to Kartra, and Kartra sets the cookie “kuuid” (see section 4). When you submit a form, your details go to Kartra. The legal basis for loading the forms is our legitimate interest in offering the sign-up (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Kartra processes the data on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR). Data are transferred to the USA on the basis of the European Commission's standard contractual clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). More in Kartra's privacy policy.

8. Contact by email

If you write to us, we process your details to answer. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a contract is concerned, otherwise our legitimate interest in replying (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We delete the data when the request is settled and no retention duties apply.

9. Links, shop and Amazon Associates Programme

Our pages link to sources, to the official rules and to our channel. When you click such a link, you leave our site and the privacy policy of the other provider applies.

Our shop shows products available on Amazon.de, Amazon's German store. Orders, payments and customer accounts are not handled on this website but at Amazon. We take part in the Amazon EU Associates Programme (Amazon Europe Core S.à r.l., Luxembourg). We mark affiliate links with an asterisk (*). When you click such a link, you go to Amazon, and Amazon may set cookies to recognise that a purchase came through our link. Amazon does not give us any information that identifies you, only figures on clicks and sales. Amazon's privacy notice applies to processing by Amazon.

Where we show products, the product images load directly from Amazon's servers, so your browser sends your IP address to Amazon. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in showing the products with a picture (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

10. Storage period

We store personal data only as long as needed for the purpose or required by law.

11. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).

Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR). Where we process data on the basis of a legitimate interest, you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.

Write to hello@courtandsand.com. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state where you live or work (Art. 77 GDPR).

12. No automated decisions

We do not make automated decisions within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
